Okay!
So I'm having some issues figuring out Darius's history, because I don't know what era this site's Egypt is in. I figured I'd give a general background of Egypt, esp. its history with female pharaohs.
I'm thinking people can add to this to help people understand Egypt? And yeah.
- Old Kingdom -- c. 2800-2200 BC
-These guys built the pyramids! -Meryt Neith was maybe a female pharaoh from c. 3000 BC. -Nitocris was less likely to be a female pharaoh, but probably ruled when all the guys were competing for the throne
- 1st Lacuna
-This is when Egypt doesn't have any known historical records. It's thought to be caused by fights between pharaohs and priests for control.
- Middle Kingdom -- c. 2000-1750 BC
-Northern and Southern Egypt are united! ... I think. Yes. -This was when they built the Temple of Karnak at Thebes -Sobeknofru ruled as queen. Pretty sure she wasn't as Pharaoh. And then there was a bunch of anarchy.
- 2nd Lacuna
-This was probably from a possible invasion, from the Hyksos (that's not their name, it just translates into 'rulers that are foreign' in Egyptian) who were Semetic. They controlled the northern part of Egypt for two centuries. After Egypt got back control, the Egyptians tried to erase the Hyksos from history.
- New Kingdom -- c. 1550-1150
-In 1550 Amosis IV won a key battle and threw the Hyksos out of Egypt (as mentioned above). He returned Egypt to the "true Egyptians," and unified Egypt AGAIN for the first time in a long time. Egypt was kinda obsessed with military defense after that. -The famous Hatshepsut was most definitely a pharaoh. She was successful. -Nefertiti had power, but she wasn't a pharaoh. -Cleopatra was a pharaoh, but obviously we can't be at this time because she was the last pharaoh. -Egypt began to decline in power in 1190 when the Sea People (again, Egyptian's name for them) attacked them. They came from somewhere up north, and had iron, so they won mostly all the time. BUT the Egyptians were smart enough to hire other Sea People as their mercenaries to fight for them.
Anyway... so what time are we in?

Egypt got chariots AFTER the Hyskos invaded. We're in the time period just a few centuries before that.
